I had the pleasure of returning to one of my favorite towns in Kentucky. I’m of course talking about Bloomfield! This cozy little town in Nelson County has tons to do while keeping true to all the comforts and tranquility of country living. If you looked on a map or drove in the area you might miss this truly great find. Located in between small cities like Taylorsville and Bardstown very few people that I’m in contact with are familiar with Bloomfield. I even have friends in Bardstown that know of it but have never actually visited. There’s some great places to eat, great shops, and if anything it’s a perfect place for a nice stroll or different scenery for a good jog. The homes are beautiful and the residents take great pride in their community. A 20MPH speed zone keeps traffic flowing but reduces the amount of careless drivers. Interestingly, there wasn’t much of a police presence that I could tell, which makes me believe the people here keep an eye out and help each other.
Communities don’t just stay clean and orderly over time. It takes a village.
Folks here are super friendly even to a guy with a camera. In some places cameras draw nasty stares, here, they draw smiles and waves. In Warsaw, KY, I actually had the cops called for filming. The officer in question couldn’t have been nicer or more professional but I make reference only to point out different reactions. Bloomfield is a town that truly embraces southern hospitality where everyone who visits feels welcome and wants to stay.
Something else I love about Bloomfield is how patriotic it is. You’ll find Old Glory all over – from homes to businesses! This is a place that loves America and wants the world to know it! This is really great to see and it speaks volumes about the folks that live here. They take pride in their homes, their streets and sidewalks, and even their alleys (which have names). When’s the last time you saw an alley that was spotless? Well they all are in Bloomfield! I didn’t see a single home that was unkept, no graffiti on any walls, or no questionable characters loitering.
Bloomfield also has a very nice post office, a large fire department, a modern gas station, several beautiful churches and room for plenty more growth! If you’re looking for a place to call home and/or somewhere to start a business, let me strongly recommend Bloomfield, KY.
